Sanatan World Cup 2010

Edmonton Sanatan made it to the quarterfinals. This was a tough tournament for the squad as some of the teams veterans did not play in this event. The teams will re-build for the next one in Vancouver. The team will add a Youth (U16 team) and a Veterans team for the 2012 competition.

Vancouver has been chosen to host the next Sanatan World Cup which will take place in September 2012.

The decision was reached in the Sanatan World Cup Soccer Association Annual General Meeting in Sigatoka yesterday.

Association president Sashi Kant Narayan said next World Cup will be organized in a much bigger and better way.

“We had a very successful World Cup here in Fiji and I wish to congratulate and thank the Fiji and Nadroga Sanatan officials for a job well done,” said Narayan.

“Vancouver will host the next World Cup and we are looking forward to a much bigger tournament in 2012.”

“For the first time we will also be introducing a youth category whereby all the countries can field their U16 teams.”

“We will start off on a trial basis and if things work out well then the Youth competition will always be part of the World Cup.”

“Apart from the feast of football, we will also be organizing a carnival similar to the one that we had here in Fiji and there will be a lot of cultural items and performances on display during the tournament” added Narayan.

Manukau City from New Zealand created history last night at Lawaqa Park after the World Cup title for the fourth consecutive time.

The star studded outfit comprising former district reps from Fiji beat Vanua Levu 2-0 in the grand final to successfully retain their title.

New Zealand Nadi Masters won the Veterans category after beating Nadroga Sydney Masters 2-0 in the final.
